Emerging from the Strasbourg scene and the Omezis collective, which includes about twenty artists, musicians, DJs, and videographers, Emile Londonien soaks up the English jazz scene of the last fifteen years and offers up a personal version.
Trained at the Strasbourg Conservatory, the three musicians met during thematic evenings organized by the Omezis collective, co-founded by drummer Matthieu Drago. A studio session paying tribute to the English scene followed in 2020. The moniker Emile Londonien, a double nod to their UK influences and to a famous French saxophonist, sprang up spontaneously.
The Covid-19 pandemic put the project on hold until their recordings fell into the hands of Dope Tone, the historical Strasbourg broken beat label, and then things started to accelerate. Influential DJs like Lefto immediately shared the tracks from this first session. Thus, emblematic of a generation that grew up in club culture, the band was launched, blending that very culture with the jazz trio tradition.
Regularly playlisted on the BBC, their first productions found an enthusiastic echo, and the praise poured in, starting with that of the influential DJ and producer Gilles Peterson himself, who sees them as heirs: “I saw these guys recently live. They are a sort of celebration of the last 10-15 years of the UK jazz scene…It’s a crossroads place.” Unknown until a few months prior, the band played Sète's Worldwide Festival, the Montreux Jazz Festival in the summer of 2021, and Nancy Jazz Pulsations, confirming on stage all the good that was already clear from listening to their recordings.
Influenced by Yussef Kamaal, The Comet Is Coming, Atjazz, SunRa, and also Ornette Coleman or Thelonious Monk and by the Broken Beat, Jazz, House, and Hip Hop scenes, Emile Londonien perfectly incarnates this “next gen” French jazz alongside Léon Phal, whose sound is close to theirs. Beyond labels, they mix tradition and contemporary music with ease, as measured on the dancefloor.
Six months after the release of their EP "Jazz Contenders", French trio Emile Londonien releases its debut album "Legacy", which already conquered more than 1,5M listeners. The result of improvisations and reflections around the theme of contemporary jazz. Beyond the musical influences of the group (jazz, broken beat, house), we can hear prestigious featurings such as Kuna Maze (Synth), Leon Phal (sax) and the brilliant and emblematic French jazz scene saxophone player Emile Parisien.

Issu de la scène strasbourgeoise et du collectif Omezis qui regroupe une vingtaine d’artistes, musiciens, Dj’s, vidéastes, Emile Londonien s’imprègne de la scène jazz anglaise de ces quinze dernières années pour en proposer une version personnelle.
Formés au Conservatoire de Strasbourg, les trois musiciens se rencontrent lors des soirées thématiques organisées par le collectif Omezis, co-fondé par le batteur Matthieu Drago. S’ensuit en 2020 une session studio rendant hommage à la scène anglaise. Le nom d’Emile Londonien, double clin d’oeil à leurs influences UK et à un fameux saxophoniste français, jaillit spontanément.
Le Covid 19 met le projet en sommeil jusqu’à ce que les bandes tombent entre les mains du label strasbourgeois historique de broken beat, Dope tone. Les choses vont alors s’accélérer. Les titres issus de cette première session sont relayés immédiatement par des DJ’s influents comme Lefto. Le groupe, emblématique de cette génération qui a grandi dans la culture clubbing et tente de l’accorder avec la tradition du trio jazz, est lancé.
Régulièrement playlistées sur la BBC, leurs premières productions trouvent un écho enthousiaste et les éloges se mettent à pleuvoir, à commencer par ceux de l’influent dj et producteur Gilles Peterson himself qui voit en eux des héritiers : « I saw these guys recently live. Encore inconnu quelques mois auparavant, le groupe se produit au Worldwide Festival de Sète, au Montreux Jazz Festival à l’été 2021 et au Nancy Jazz Pulsations, confirmant sur scène tout le bien qu’on pouvait penser d’eux à l’écoute.
Influencé par Yussef Kamaal, The Comet Is Coming, Atjazz, SunRa, mais aussi Ornette Coleman ou Thelonious Monk et par les scènes, Broken Beat, Jazz, House, Hip Hop, Emile Londonien incarne ainsi à merveille cette « next gen » du jazz français aux cotés de Léon Phal, dont ils sont proches. Débarrassée des étiquettes, elle mixe sans complexe la tradition et les musiques actuelles avec le dancefloor pour mètre étalon.
Six mois après la sortie de l’EP "Jazz Contenders", le trio Emile Londonien sort en janvier 2023 son premier album "Legacy", qui a conquis plus de 1,5M auditeurs. Fruit d'improvisations et de réflexions autour de la question du jazz moderne. Au-delà des influences musicales du groupes (jazz, broken beat, house), on trouve dans cet album de prestigieux featurings tels que Kuna Maze, Léon Phal ou encore le génial Emile Parisien, saxophoniste phare et emblématique de la scène jazz française.
