Created in the 1960s following the merger of the Orchestre du Capitole and the Orchestre Symphonique de Toulouse-Pyréenees, the Orchestre National du Capitole has risen to new heights thanks to the efforts of Michel Plasson, who was its Director until 2003. In 1981, the Orchestre du Capitole was awarded a “national” label. In 2005, with the arrival of Tugan Sokhiev, came a fresh impetus, with a 125-strong body of musicians. In the Halle aux Grains, the Orchestre National du Capitole offers a rich symphonic season as well as underpinning the lyrical and choreographic seasons of the Theatre du Capitole.
Musical creativity is at the heart of these seasons, the orchestra having – with musicians like Bruni Mantovani, Qigang Chen and Benjamin Attahir – formed special ties and created various works of their own. For some years now the orchestra has actively pursued a policy of recording, hailed by the critics and, with Tugan Sokhiev, has published five albums for the Naïve Classic label. During the Covid Pandemic, the whole of the Orchestre National du Capitole season was maintained and transmitted online and through social network platforms.

Né dans les années 1960 de la fusion entre l'Orchestre du Capitole et l'Orchestre symphonique de Toulouse-Pyrénées, l’Orchestre national du Capitole prend une nouvelle dimension grâce au travail de Michel Plasson qui le dirige jusqu’en 2003. En 1981, l’Orchestre du Capitole prend le label « national ». En 2005, l’arrivée de Tugan Sokhiev donne un nouveau souffle à l’effectif de cent-vingt-cinq musiciens. Au sein de la Halle aux Grains, l'Orchestre national du Capitole offre une riche saison symphonique tout en assurant la saison lyrique et chorégraphique du Théâtre du Capitole.
La création musicale est au coeur des différentes saisons, l’orchestre ayant noué avec des musiciens tels que Bruno Mantovani, Qigang Chen ou Benjamin Attahir des relations privilégiées et a créé plusieurs de leurs pièces. L’orchestre déploie depuis de nombreuses années une politique active d’enregistrements salués par la critique, et avec Tugan Sokhiev, il a réalisé cinq disques pour le label naïve classique. Pendant la crise sanitaire du Coronavirus, l’ensemble de la saison de l’Orchestre national du Capitole a été maintenue et diffusée en ligne et sur les réseaux sociaux.
